Of all of the kitchen door styles available the one you are most likely to have heard of is Shaker. It’s been around since the late 18th century, originating with the Shaker religious community in the United States.
The Shakers, known for their values of simplicity, utility, and honesty, designed furniture that reflected these principles—resulting in the clean, functional, and elegant style we now associate with Shaker kitchens.
Its enduring popularity is a testament to its timeless design and practicality. Here at JT Ellis we offer a wide range of Shaker kitchens and in this article, we focus on five of our favourites, each offering versatility and distinctive styling to create a personalised look.
New England has been one of our best selling doors for many years and we think it’s easy to see why. First of all it feels very solid because of its 22mm thickness and the woodgrain structure foil is very realistic to the extent you could think that it is real timber!
It’s 5 piece construction agin makes it feel premium and this is backed up by a choice of 7 colours giving you plenty of scope to personalise your design. Curves are available too which can successfully soften the overall look of the space.
Latimer is a new range to JT Ellis but we feel its extra detailing gives it every chance of being popular with housebuilders and home owners. It’s a 5 piece narrow shaker, but what really sets it apart is its internal bead which is very visually appealing and it can be dressed in a modern or more classic style.
Again, it feels very solid with its 22mm thickness and it benefits from an authenticpainted oak woodgrain effect foil with a slight sheen which makes it easy to wipe down. Available in 3 colours, Light Grey, Reed Green and Indigo we feel this Shaker range has the distinctiveness and premium look to be a real winner.
Another new introduction into the Shaker line up is Metropolitan. However, Metropolitan is far from your traditional Shaker door as this micro shaker introduces a very modern take on the design with its very narrow 8mm frame.
The impact of this slimmest of frames is to introduce a very modern aesthetic and pared with modern handles and seamless worktops you have the ultimate modern kitchen with the added bonus of a supermatt finish. We think Metropolitan introduces a styling edge to the Shaker line up.
Another slightly unorthodox Shaker range is Whitstable Shaker. Yet another twist on the timeless style of Shaker kitchens, Whitstable Shaker does not come with your traditional rails and stiles which are the structural elements of the typical Shaker kitchen’s frame.
Rather this design comes a with grooved vertical and horizontal lines to mimic the look of a frame but with a lighter look. This kitchen can easily be styles in either a modern or classic way and has the added benefit of being available in a palette of 30 paint colours to further personalise the look. Which colour would you choose?
And the final Shaker style kitchen we feature in this article is Harlington. Once again this is far from your run of the mill Shaker range.
Harlington is an in-frame styled Shaker range and if you have a penchant for real timber then Harlington could be for you as it’s made from solid ash and a real wood veneer centre panel. It also benefits from being available in 30 beautiful paint colours which bring out the grain of the real timber.
Each of the five kitchens featured in this article are classified as Shaker, but they’re all very different in their styling and therefore the type of kitchen you can achieve. What they all have in common is the essence of the Shaker design which never goes out of fashion and is adaptable to suit a wide range of interiors.
