Meet the Team

What responsibilities does your role include?
I am responsible for the day-to-day accounting processes, managing the finance team, and preparing the management accounts (and everything else in between!). I ensure our compliance with HMRC, and I am one of the first ports of call for the wider business when they have money queries!

I have also recently taken on responsibility for our applications for payments from customers, which means I have to wear a QS hat (which is ironic because once upon a time I did consider getting a surveyor qualification, funny how these things come full circle).

What’s a typical day like for you?
Surprisingly varied to say I am an accountant. I come in for the day with a plan, but that often ends up going out of the window! The day generally always starts with reviewing the cash position of the business and dealing with any new accounting queries that come in. Once that is done, I can move on to some more "deep work", and that varies depending on what time of the month it is.

What's the part of your job you enjoy most?
I enjoy the responsibility of my role and the opportunities for personal and professional growth that come from being continually challenged to develop my skills and improve performance.

How has J.T. Ellis grown or changed since you’ve been with the company?
I think the organisation has formulated a much clearer idea of what it wants to become over the coming years, and I think as a business, we are all growing more aligned with that goal day by day.

What do you like most about working for J.T. Ellis?
I really like the people that work here, from the top of the organisation down to the bottom & I feel that you are valued and encouraged to perform and grow. Having worked for a number of organisations, I think I have a good feel for when you are seen as a person, or just another "number", and I genuinely think that JT Ellis appreciates & encourages the staff, and that all the staff are loyal, hard working, and band together, which makes this a great place to work.

What would your colleagues say about you?
I would hope warm and friendly, but they would probably just say talkative!

Do you have a secret Talent?
I'm a surprisingly good photographer, if I do say so myself.

What was your first job?
I worked in the professional's shop at Rawdon Golf Club on a Sunday.

What's your favourite food?
Spaghetti Al Vongole

What do you do when you're not at work?
Previously, I would have said Golf/Cycling/Gym/Jiu Jitsu (I struggle to sit still for longer than 5 mins), but I have a 4 month old at home, so now I'm full time Daddy on an evening.
